Product Details

Developed to benefit clients with complex care needs, the Arctic Turning Bed is a fully profiling bed that also enables the user to turn themselves in bed.
One of the specialised functions of the Arctic is that it can turn whilst the person is sat up in bed, allowing an endless number of positional changes. All these possible positional changes are essential for providing the client with comfort and pressure relief as well as manual handling. The Arctic is fitted with the Auto box making it programmable, this allows the bed to be pre-set to perform positional changes at a desired frequency.

The Arctic’s height adjustable mechanism reduces the unnecessary strain on carers and contributes to a better quality of single handed care. The Arctic’s multi-positional and multi-functional bed system that can be bespoke for a client’s needs makes it suitable for people with a number of different conditions such as muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, tissue viability and cerebral palsy. The Arctic is able to address an individual’s specific needs and help reduce their pain and discomfort, alleviating some of the responsibility and work of the carers while also maintaining the client’s independence. To meet the varying tissue viability needs the Arctic is available with a choice of highly sophisticated pressure relieving mattresses.

The turning function can be stopped at any position up to 55 degrees, where it will stop automatically. It is also possible to turn the person onto their side if they prefer to lie that way. In the current economic climate, people are regularly trying to find various methods to reduce costs and in hospitals there is a reduced or single handed care. This makes the Arctic turning bed an essential, cost-saving piece of equipment by not only reducing the amount of carers required to reposition a client but, in many cases the client is given the freedom to reposition themselves without having to rely on others.

“We truly believe that your bed and turner has helped in keeping Curtis here with us. No pneumonia over winter is a FIRST.”

Kyle (Arctic Bed)

“I took delivery of my Centrobed Arctic Independent bed about a year ago. It was immediately apparent to me and my carers it was going to be extremely helpful in reducing the time and effort it takes to re-position me. Especially at night. So instead of being woken constantly, I’m now able to mostly sleep through – as are my carers.

There are other benefits too, but the overnight automatic positioning is, in my house anyway, the most important.”

Alan

“Firstly the cool design and look of the bed is so pleasing. After having a plain-looking, profiling hospital bed, it is such a relief having a ‘normal’ looking bed, with a cool design.

Also, the fact we can change the design as he gets older is such a bonus.

As for the comfort and practicality, it has been a god send. Christopher is so much more comfortable now at night. He has always struggled to get himself comfortable ever since being a toddler, which since he has become diagnosed with Duchenne, has become clear why.

With so many variations of positions, he or we can adjust the bed to suit his needs, to make him as relaxed as possible. As he does suffer with bad chest frequently, we tend to have the head end raised slightly, which helps his breathing and reduces the coughing through the night. We also keep the side guard up at an angle which gives him security, but also allows him to get on and off the bed on his own. Also, we often raise the edges of the bed which helps him keep his hips and legs in line and supports his thighs.”
